And it's far more common with actresses than actors
That's because actresses have a much shorter shelf life than actors. By and large, and while I do 100% recognize there are exceptions, most actresses are chosen for their looks rather than their acting chops. Why? Because your big blockbuster films tend to be male-oriented affairs and men love seeing hot, sexy women in prominent roles. Women like Megan Fox, Meg Ryan, Kate Beckinsale, and Sydney Sweeney frequently fill out these casts and give young men what they want: skin.
But as these women slowly age into their 40s and 50s, they become increasingly in low demand because they got by on their looks rather than their acting abilities. Scripts for these big budget tentpole movies continue to call for women in their 20s and early-30s so newer talent comes up to fill them. Meanwhile your favorite actresses who were pin up girls in the late-90s (Alicia Silverstone, Denise Richards, Sharon Stone, etc.) lose out on roles meant for more mature actresses because they require acting chops rather than looks. So your Meryl Streeps and Kate Winslets continue to get those roles because they actually know how to act.
As a result, once in demand actresses like Bridget Fonda frequently have before and after photos that look like this:
Due to the fact that they have aged out of that range where they are considered eye candy.

Jeez.
Believe it or not, she was a DJ on KMOD in Tulsa OK when I was a late teen / early 20s. This was right around 1980.
KMOD was THE rock station in Oklahoma for years. They still are, but I don't live in Tulsa anymore.
She used to be pretty hot. Looks like she let herself go.
