There is a reason that pre 1970, beach houses on Gulf Coast were camps and disposable with old furniture. The exception was Bay St. Louis to Ocean Springs in Mississippi, pre Camille where upper middle class New Orleanians escaped cholera and yellow fever epidemics during summer months pre WWII.
