did you tell him about that time you ran off the road and hit a tree while you were posting on TD, and what about the other time you hit a deer bc you werent paying attention?

Maybe he could learn from YOUR mistakes

I’ve got a lead foot so mine comes by it honestly. The difference is I have an established good driving record for insurance. Took him a week without his car to figure that out

my son is very independent for his age really.

He's been doing his laundry since middle school, fixing his lunches for school if he doesn't want cafeteria food, cleans his room and bathroom and has several chores around the house that he has to do.

the only thing I really do- and that's more for me is deep clean his room abt twice a year to shampoo his carpet.

And if he doesn't want to eat what I fix for supper he's on his own there also,

guess I need to set up the alerts to notify me of his speed.

It’s fun to take a screen shot of alert showing his speed and text to him in real time. Even better if you know his friends’ phone numbers, too

Well, if I did get all that stuff for all my kids I’d be crazier than I already am

that is NOT what happened

the deer literally jumped out in front of my vehicle. I know you're not familiar with the concept of seeing deer recently, but they are known to jump out in the road. It's not like I went off-road to run him down.

Yeah. Mine does his own laundry and keeps up his own room and bathroom. He also forages for himself if he doesn’t want to eat what I cook. I don’t mind making eggs in the morning usually but I was tired today.

It’s a little different for me, I guess, bc I am a stay at home mom. Feel like it’s my job to be helpful while still pushing him to be more & more independent.

girl same- and that's what my son said when we were talking about it a few days later.
I had to tell him to do as I say, not as I do

For a couple of years, I had so many points on my driving record I was one ticket away from losing my DL for a year.

it's ok mfdph, the deer lived, I slammed on my brakes and he ended up just grazing the front right corner. no damage to my vehicle, just a little fur/hair whatever you call deer hair.

Just explain the established driving record for insurance argument. Assuming he doesn’t know your actual record
Mine was like, what do you mean you can’t drive 90 mph on I75? And I realized that’s all he’s ever known driving with me

my first cousin is TN Trooper and he keeps up with how many points I have.

When I wrecked my yukon - I called him first to make sure that the trooper responding to my wreck knew we were related so I didn't get a ticket for the wreck.

it's nice having a LEO in the family for sure. But with my son, I didn't call in any favors- I want him to have a consequence now so that hopefully in the future he makes better choices.

Agree on the consequences thing. Problem is that our kid is probably 6 years out from paying for his own car insurance so… he needs to learn these lessons as quickly as possible.

Hmmm… Like the idea of the convenience but try to make companies at least work a little bit to compile a ton of info on me.
