They will mail it back to you with your birth certificate that you have to leave with them

They make you pay for postage though, of course

I got mine 2 days after going to the office

She booked the trip using her married name bc she knew she would be married for the honeymoon. However she had no ID with that name.

Can you opt to have them send you the passport by mail instead of having to make a return trip to pick it up in person another day?
Yes, I'm pretty sure you can do this. We just wanted it ASAP and it just meant a trip across the lake for us.

No problem. Just tell her to be patient, as it's one of the more inefficient processes I've witnessed.

I didn't change my name until after the honeymoon....even though our honeymoon was several months after the wedding. Didn't want to chance my passport not arriving in time.

I did the same as you and thank God I did. We had 2 months between our wedding & honeymoon, and the super star employees at the Nola courthouse actually lost our marriage license. Naturally I pestered them for about 4 weeks before they came clean, and we found out the week we were leaving on our honeymoon. The red tape for us to get it retroactively approved while living out of state was a bigger headache than we cared to deal with. We ended up saying f it and getting married a second time at the Chicago courthouse. So now we have two anniversaries

Oh wow! Yeah good thing you waited.

Two anniversaries isn't a horrible thing. More reasons for a nice date night out
