So is there any difference? Or it’s just a new word for the same thing?
Co-dependency usually only involves one person in the relationship wreaking havoc. Enmeshment is when the entire family dynamic if is fricked up. Someone who is codependent is often in enmeshment. Does that make sense? They can co-exist but often overlap.
My in-law and her mother have created a bubble around the two of them and have wrecked or are currently wrecking every relationship around them including with her own husband and small children.

Total enmeshment.
We were on a family trip in Disney World a few years back with these people. Every day was fight after fight, power struggle after power struggle. Most nights the dad would just bail on everyone and go back to the hotel room. We usually ditched them after a few hours because these people suck you into the shite show and you don't even realize it until you're wading in the poop. A few weeks after that trip we got a group text telling us how much we ruined their trip by never wanting to be with them.
We ultimately had to cut them out of our life. The cousin started dragging my 2yr old into it and using her to divide and conquer her mom from the rest of the family. Then her mom would "confide" in my wife about the shite the cousin does then turnaround and tell the cousin what my wife said! It was beyond insane. They would go through each other's phones to find out of anyone was talking about them. I'm talking level 10000000 dysfunction.
