They would have family dinner and invite the abuser into the home, the boy wouldn’t tell the parents for a variety of reasons—shame, guilt, could be that he’s being provided money or items in exchange for the abuse.

So, sometimes the families actually don’t know even when they interact with the abuser. Not really an answer pertaining to this specific case, but that’s how it was described in those trafficking / serial killer cases
