Building a house and pondering putting in smart thermostats, as opposed to simply programmable ones.

Anyone have positives or negatives about these?

My tendency is to think "just one more thing to go wrong," but....

We can't use the Nest because it does not work with our system for some reason.

TIA

One upside is that you can mess with it from your phone. If you’re out on vacay and forgot to turn the AC down, could save you lots of energy

The only real advantage we've seen beyond having an app to adjust the unit is that it ties to our Big arse fan in the living room. It can turn on the fan and work in conjunction to lower the temp quicker. Also, once lowered it will use the fan to conserve electricity.
