Adding a true masonry fireplace to an existing home is a pretty big project. The best location will be an outside wall, where you can pour a slab to accommodate the new firebox and support the chimney.

$157,400 minimum.

I will never understand why people in South Louisiana want a fireplace.

My house doesn’t have a fireplace, and we want one. Brick house, on slab. In Lafayette area.

What would this set me back? Anybody know someone who could do it? How long would it take?

I grew up with one and don’t mind cleaning it out everyday.

You do not even want to contemplate adding a traditional fireplace and brick chimney, that is going to be 50 grand between the foundation, frame, and roof work alone.

Go buy a nice glass front free standing wood stove/fireplace and call it a day, something like the below, all in $1500 if you must burn sticks in your home.
