Might be too time intensive, but the most meaningful gift I got my dad, 80 yrs old, was a Family Tree book off of ancestry. I happened to have already had information and photos uploaded, but they did an amazing job of adding a timeline with historical context to ancestors lives and printing it all in a hardbound book. He spent weeks going through it all and remembering the old photos. Its also a nice keepsake for future generations.
Another thought I had, but haven't executed on yet, is to rent an old car (his when he was a teenager was a convertible thunderbird) and send him and mom to one of the few remaining drive in movies nearby for a date night. Don't know if such car rental places exist in K.C. or not.
