Question about an early 80's P bass

I'm looking at a 1983 Fender P bass. It looks to be in amazing shape from the pictures. Seller says it was made at the Fullerton plant. He is asking 1000 for it. Is that a good deal or not?

A quick check of Ebay shows a few priced "buy it now" at $1300-$1600, you may want to check the Guitar Center's site used gear listing to see if they have something similar and how it is priced.
