It took me a while to appreciate the album, and to get past that mid 80s tone that it has. But the more I listened, the more I enjoyed the songs, and its uniqueness. Nothing else really sounds like the songs on that album. Sure, there are obvious genre influences in every song, but the way he mixes them in with the 80's production makes it very distinct.

I actually prefer Rhythm of the Saints to Graceland, though. That is a desert island album for me.

This is why I love it.

It has a distinct sound to it.

Also the bass work is incredible.
