I was a big crue fan. As more time passes, I really can't listen to anything after shout.

This in a nutshell. Sold out and pretty much sucked after Shout at the Devil, other than a decent song here or there.

Tommy Lee did. Hell of a drummer.

He wasn't a bad front man either. I saw him at the varsity supporting "never a dull moment". He put on a good show of method of mayhem material and the new album. He closed with a Shout '97 version.

Looking back at some of the never a dull moment videos on youtube, the songs do not hold up. I bought the tommyland cd, listened to the first 15-30 seconds of each track then used it as a coaster.

Some songs were gotdamn awful.

There is not a hair band/glam metal act from that era who didn't have their fair share of shite songs.

Motley Crue's impact on American music was arguably more to do with their image and attitude than their actual sound. Along, with Twisted Sister, they reemphasized glam and theatrical elements that had slowly begun to disappear from American rock music.

Also, they re-infused the bad body persona and mentality of hard rock. They brought an edge and aggression to the scene that had become stale during the arena rock era.

As one poster already mentioned, you could give them a degree of credit for helping to incorporate the punk sound into hard rock and metal (e.g. the Too Fast For Love record).

However, I think thrash metal did a much better job of blending hardcore and punk tempo and fury into its sound.

As it has been said, Lee and Mars are pretty quality players for that scene. Mars' life story is a pretty grim one, along with Nikki Sixx. The fact that Mick lasted long enough to see a platinum album is damn near a miracle given his drug abuse, depression, and medical ailments.

Honestly, Vince Neil is the least talented member of the group. He is easily one of the weakest vocalists from the L.A. hair metal scene.

Vince was pretty bad live. His off stage persona was something else though.
