And, honestly, he was more American than English - he was already here before he was 20 - apparently he lost his English accent in his 20s/30s and didn't really start to get it back at all until he was regularly around Jane Leeves. I'm not sure if that's related to the scene where Marty affects a British/English accent (badly), but it was hilarious nonetheless. (Just as it was when Dominic West did a similar bit in The Wire where he, a British actor playing an American cop from Baltimore affects a terrible British accent to go undercover - that is incredible acting right there.)
