I remember the marketing for this movie made it seem like Cook was the main character. There was name hotter than Cooks then.

If the whole movie was a dream, then yes, that would have ruined the film. But just the part with him being killed in his bed as the dream added a layer of psychosis to his character. I thought the movie was great from start to finish.
