Not sure where else to post this, but this board seems most appropriate. You can only see this show in NYC currently, but I expect this will get a big tour at some point. I saw it last week and I can see it may be one of the best and most well produced shows I've ever seen, whether it be movies, concerts, musicals, etc.

The plot is set in the future, and is about two "helper" robots that have been retired by their owners, and now live in a "retirement community" to exist until their batteries eventually fail. One robot doesn't believe he's actually retired and is trying to get in touch with his owner. There are only a few cast members, but they absolutely killed it.

I'm not sure a movie adaptation could really do this one justice either. Because the sets are very dynamic. They use this moving grid / iris that opens and closes to only show certain boxed areas of the stage, like below.

Here's a video that explains it a little better.

If you are visiting NYC, this is a must see.

I'm honestly just jealous you got to see Darren Criss in this production. I've seen clips and it looks like he's great in it.

The innovation of the set reminds me of when Hamilton came out and had the double turn table that helped convey the movement (and at times slowing) of time during the play. It's something I don't know that you can really properly appreciate unless you see it in person (much like your play in the OP). Set design can be pretty cool.

I forgot to mention that the music was also great. Lots of old school jazz / lounge singer music. They have a Michael Buble' type singer who does some live singing in a separate box during the show, and he's very good.
