I haven't watched AI regularly in a few seasons but I watched the other day and would have to say the overall talent is higher than I have ever seen. They cut some people to get to 24 that were actually pretty good.

If I had my way, I'd keep 7 girls and 3 guys. I agree with what someone else said about it must sound better in person, because gay black guy who they drool over, I thought was off tune the entire song, the flaming redhead guy sucked arse and overpronounced his words. I'm already sick of the high pitched rocker tourretes guy, you can only listen to so much squealing.
On the other hand, there's only about 3 girls that sounded out of tune and didn't display outright talented and great sounding vocals. I'm more the type of person who wants to hear quality, rather than listen to shite and see a bunch of jumping around and "entertaining". Pia and Thia were I thought two of the best performances of the night.
