A victory over an FCS school should hold a weight of something around .60 or something similar.

And a loss?

1.20. I don't know, you can work out the weights but if we're placing every school that plays football into one poll, there should be some sort of weight to ensure that a juggernaut FCS school is ranked similarly to Oregon.

There is already a weight. Its based on your opponent's rating. You're suggesting adding additional weight of an arbitrary amount that rewards low performing FBS teams (like those of the Sun Belt) and punishes high performing FCS teams for no other reason than they perform not like expected based on their subdivision.

You're overestimating the difference between lower half FBS schools and FCS schools.

OK. Maybe we should account for the quality of the uniforms, as well. The better teams tend to have the better quality uniforms. So obviously you should get more points for beating a team with better uniforms, right?

Nice. Someone makes a good point showing logical flaws in your poll, and you come back with an asinine hypothetical to try and make him sound dumb.

How in the hell coul going 5-0 against good FCS teams possibly hold similar merits to going 5-0 against good FBS teams?

Yeah, his reputation precedes him. I've never really been exposed to it because I stay far away from the Poli Board, though.

You're missing the point.

A higher divisional status is associated with a higher level of play - just like quality uniforms. But we don't reward teams simply for being in a higher division - we reward them only for their level of play.

I didn't say it did. Looking at the rankings, the higher rated FBS teams have a rating in the upper 2000's - the higher rated FCS teams have ratings in the lower 2000's. The reward you get for going 5-0 against the latter will be substantially less than going 5-0 against the former - but its because their RATING is lower, not because they have a C instead of a B in their subdivision name.

So you just automatically assume that the combined record of a team's opponents in FBS play should be given the same weight as the combined records of a team's opponents in FCS play?

I would really like to see how your poll stacks up at the end of the year in comparison to the BCS. If you have data from previous end of year's polls compared to the BCS, post it. I'm sure others would like to see it too.

Uhh, no. When did I ever say that? They would only have the same weight if their list of opponents was identical. Unlikely for schools from two different divisions.

In this case a team from a higher class has an inherent advantage (more schollies). So on avg if A and B Schools have equal talent per player, wouldn't we expect the school with more players to win? I'm not saying penalize FCS, we are saying penalize FBS schools for winning games where they have an advantage before they get off the bus so to speak(over lower class schools with less schollies).

Also how the frick is an NAIA team even in the mix, they have a different set of elegibilty rules.

NAIA teams do play NCAA teams on occasion. The teams in the list are all linked in some way.

Give me a few minutes.

The data formats are different for past games.
