Hopefully the Rangers can scoop him up first.

This is what Jim Callis of Baseball America had to say about Vitters a couple weeks ago when he released his mid season top 50 prospects list:
quote:
I'm also not sold Vitters could be an everyday third baseman at the big league level. I think you'd want a better defender than that. So no, I can't tell you he even received consideration for the Top 50.
Keith Law had to say this about Vitters (I share the same view point):
quote:
His main flaw as a pro has always been the complete lack of patience/plate discipline. That's really not any better this year. And I say that as someone who raved about him out of the draft and would still call it one of the best-looking RH swings I have ever seen.

Shields? Rangers haven't really been linked to him.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Angels were "rebuffed" in their pursuit of James Shields.
The Halos offered speedy center fielder Peter Bourjos to the Rays in exchange for the 30-year-old right-hander, but it wasn't enough. Shields has posted a 4.39 ERA and 124/39 K/BB ratio across 131 2/3 innings this season for Tampa Bay. He carries an affordable $9 million club option for 2013 and a $12 million club option for 2014. The Dodgers, Rangers and Cardinals also have interest.

Haven't heard anything concrete though.

I think we end up giving up Segura and getting him or adding Kendrick and getting Zobrist too. Not sure but Rays and Angels will make some trade this weekend.

Interesting:
It’s no secret that the Los Angeles Angels are talking to the Tampa Bay Rays about right-hander James Shields. But the Angels also are interested in some of the Rays’ other available pitchers, including right-hander Wade Davis, major-league sources say.
For the Angels, Davis would represent an intriguing alternative to Shields, in part because he is under club control for even longer.
Davis, 26, is excelling this season as a reliever. The Angels could use him in that role or stretch him out and move him into their rotation, where he likely would be better than right-handers Ervin Santana and Jerome Williams.
Long-term, the Angels would use Davis as a starter – and a rather affordable one at $2.8 million next season and $4.8 million in 2014, with club options of $7 million, $8 million and $10 million through 2017.
An inexpensive solution would benefit the Angels, who must decide at the end of the season whether to exercise the options on right-handers Dan Haren ($15.5 million) and Ervin Santana ($13 million).
Davis would be a bargain compared to either pitcher. So would Shields, whose contract includes club options of $9 million for next season and $12 million for ‘14.
Angels center fielder Peter Bourjos could be part of a package for either pitcher. The Rays are likely to lose their center fielder, B.J. Upton, at the end of the season.

I don't believe the Rangers are interested in Shields at this time, contrary to reports. But that's just coming from what I've read from a bunch of local guys.

You guys would prefer to rent Greinke, right?
Posted on 7/26/12 at 12:39 pm to DEANintheYAY
I'm not a big Grienke guy. He's a head case and I don't see him as a big game guy.
I am a Johnson guy.
I am a Johnson guy.

do you think the Brewers would trade Corey Hart for a fair price?

Until he goes out of a big start in the 3rd inning cause he's got a "blister."

All reports are indicating he's the least likely to be traded, so I doubt anything they want will be considered "fair"
Brewers trade pieces in order of "GTFO we need to rebuild"
Greinke
K Rod
Wolf
Kottaras (ETA: just saw he was DFA'd)
Ramirez
Hart

Giants still looking for bullpen help. Had some interest in K-Rod...until they saw him the other day. And they don't see Broxton as answer.

Perhaps, but Greinke is a much bigger pussy than Johnson is.
Posted on 7/26/12 at 1:58 pm to BigBoyTiger
I dunno. I think both are great and both have their own shitty issues.
Greinke's mind and Johnson's constant hand/arm/shoulder injuries.

You're right.
But I don't want a guy with a fricked up head.
