Why not Smart Jones? His time after the first 1 1/4 miles in the Belmont would have won all but 4 Kentucky Derbies ever run and he still almost won it.

Just never really warmed up to him. Didn't think he was good as everyone thought he was, but I look at him more favorably now then I did back then.
Was also a huge fan of Rock Hard Ten at the time, so I guess that could have had something to do with it.
He never had a shot in the Belmont with all those jockeys gunning for him and forcing him into speed duels though.
