I know the deal is Germans but frick it
Getting Halladay is great, but....
The reason the couldn't get him at the deadline last year was because they didn't want to give up Taylor or Drabek. They could have had Lee and Halladay for half a season if they had just been willing to move them last year. I know it would cost too much to keep both of them longer term, but if they would have just done this deal last season it would have basically guaranteed a championship. And they could have still moved Lee now.
I'm a Yankee fan so I am glad they didn't do it, but it makes no sense that they passed up getting Halladay to keep their up their prospects. Then 5 months later, they decided to do it, but miss the opportunity to have Halladay and Lee together for half a season.

But seriously I don't get it either. Good chance to have both of them for half a season last season, which probably would have changed the outcome of the Series. Then you get rid of Lee, a fan favorite mind you, for Halladay albiet a great pitcher, it just doesn't make much sense.

i thought it was fricking stupid, unless the only reason they did it was to sign a long term deal, and they thought they couldnt get it done with lee. only thing that makes sense

This HAS TO BE the main point.
My other thought is, Halladay might come at a cheaper price now that Lee will after another year of dominated the NL.
Lee was getting rocked in the AL before the trade.
Probably getting better value for Lee now, and getting Halladay at the most reasonable price.
ETA---If they don't get one long term now, odds are the would have missed out on both at the end of next year when it came to a bidding war.

Lee has a better ERA in the AL last year than he did with the phils.
