Yea PhatDaddy your right. I haven't gotten a chance to see the boys play this season, but I have kept up with them in the newspaper. It has been one rough year though. However, they did get their first district win of the season Friday night at Walker, so that's good for them. What you think of the girls?

I graduated from Denham in O2, had a bunch of friends that played on the 03 team and in 04 and 05 I did the color commentary for the radio broadcasts, so I've seen alot of Denham basketball over those years

Yea I just graduated in 08. This might be a dumb question, but you're not Josh Ward are you?

the boys have another good one coming up.
Southside Jr High went 21-1 this season in basketball including big win over undefeated Central team at end of year. Their lone loss was to Episcopal by 4, but they played the game without their starting center, who has potential to play D-1.
They have a 6'1" swing man who can shoot, handle and dunk and had 18 against Brad Bridgewaters 6'5" brother who plays at Episcopal, while holding the Bridgewater kid to 11.
Then the center is 6'3", is a monster at about 175 in 8th grade. Can run, dunk, and is strong and athletic. He has never played basketball before, and shows tons of improvement throughout the year. Fnished up with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots against that Central team that beat Episcopal.
Tasmin was a big man alot in Jr High and High school, but they would move him out on the wing from time to time, as it was clear his future was there. But local coaches say this kid is further along then was Tas at that age, and has serious potential to be better. Im talking of the swing man

I know Denham has a young BB team this season, but how do the Yellowjacket fans feel about the coaching?

Wow Breezy, I didn't know there were some great players coming up, but that's great to hear. It sounds like we should have another strong team in a couple of years. Do you know if those guys from Southside are going to play football too, or just focus on basketball?

Yea LSU7171, I do think they kinda got shafted with that 7 seed. It's all because of a coin flip at the end of the Denham Walker game Friday night that determined who got a full point in the power rankings system. Walker won, so Denham got a 1/2 point. I still don't understand why exactly that was enough to put Walker 3 spots ahead of us, they're at 4 and we're at 7

This DSHS Yellow Jacket basketball team has been impressive all season long and now it's time to see how far they can go. The Yellow Jackets are definently battle tested. They beat 6 seeded West Monroe by 8, they beat 5 seeded East Ascension by 12, and they beat 3 seeded Ponchatoula by 4 in Ponchy.
Here is a breakdown of the side of the bracket that Denham is on.
BI-DISTRICT: Denham will face 26 seeded Sulfur Thursday night in Denham. Sulfur is 16-13 overall, with a 4-4 record in a weak district.
REGIONAL: In the regional, Denham will face the winner of the Thibodaux vs. St. Thomas More game in Denham Springs on Tuesday night. Both Thibodaux and STM seem to be evenly matched, but I think STM will pull in out. STM is 25-5 overall, with an 8-0 district record in a weak district. Denham Springs beat STM in December 4 points at STM. If the Yellow Jackets play their game, they should be able to win this game and advance.
QUARTERFINALS: Now this is where it always gets interesting. If no major upsets occur, Denham Springs would play the number 2 seeded Lafayette High in Lafayette on next Thursday night for a spot in the semi-finals. Lafayette has an impressive record and seed, but it is a bit misleading. When looking at their schedule, they played in a very weak district, and they seemed to struggle against quality competition. For instance, Lafayette lost to 3 seed Ponchatoula by 44 points in December, the same Ponchatoula team that Denham defeated by 4 points on their home court.
CONCLUSION: Of course, the playoffs are always a whole different ballgame than the regular season. However, I believe that Denham Springs has the easiest road to the semi-finals that it has had in years. I have been saying all season that I believe that this team has what it takes to go all the way. If the Yellow Jackets play at their highest level every game, I believe that can make it to the semi-finals and from there, it's anyone's ballgame. So here's to the start of the playoff journey. Could it end with a State Championship Trophy residing in the cozy confides of Denham Springs? Time will tell. Go Jackets!
