I started using taxact online service about 8-10 years ago and it has steadily increased in price each year. It starts out free but once you start putting in certain things like student loan interest or home mortgage interest it says you have to use a non free version.
When I first started using it I paid $15 to efile and direct deposit both state and federal. Now it’s up around $50-$60 for the same service.
