No, you can't take any deduction because of your filing status. Just like how you can't contribute directly to a ROTH because of your filing status.
However, you can still CONTRIBUTE to the traditional because there is no rule about contributing regarding filing status.
And since none of these rules apply to conversions, you essentially sidestep the rule stopping you from contributing to the ROTH directly.
