Yes, you get miles for flights, but you (usually) don't get benefits for hotel chains. For flights, it essentially works as a cash booking from the airline's end. If something goes wrong, you usually have to call C1 instead of the airline, which can make things more difficult in delays.

Personally, I prefer a premium card with a bunch of transfer partners. Amex Platinum and the Chase Sapphire family do this best. They are premium cards with high annual fees but if you use the benefits the fees are basically a wash.
