With the generally high cost of appliances these days I don't mind tacking on an extra $100-150 on a purchase to cover 5 years of parts and labor to not have to hassle with it. I've had them with Home Depot and my AC contractor but through them and both paid off with no problems.

Has anyone had any experience with a Square Trade or similar policy? TIA.

Most aftermarket warranties aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. All sorts of clauses that basically say they don’t have to fix anything. Maybe there’s a good one out there somewhere but I would save your money.
