Oh, I dont think returners get hurt nearly as often as one would think. And when players do get hurt on special teams, it's usually not the returner. I think wedge buster might be the most dangerous spot.
I go
1. RB
2. QB
3. WR
4. KR

Good deal Harper. Sorry it took so long to drive the point home. I should have named all of the former Heisman winners upfront and saved you from looking like a total arse.

receivers, safeties, corners and running backs don't have direct involvement in every play (on their side of the ball), like QB's. In addition, those positions typically have more depth than QB as far as being ready to fill a role. So the risk of losing a QB for maybe 2-3 potential returns a game isn't worth it. If it ever comes to the point where Shep has no shot at contributing at QB, then I'll be all for letting him return.

thats whats killing me (not trying to stir the pot up again). in theory the kick return should be the most violent/dangerous part of a game, but no, i couldn't come up with a single example.
empirical data losses again

That surprised me too. And then I thought of all the QBs that have gotten hurt recently. RB is still the toughest though. And I still dont care about seeing RS returning kicks.
