there is not only a conflict of interest but the spend all saturday preping and playing their respective games...they hardly/never get to watch how teams perform minus stats. How is this a worthy component of the BCS. And Nick Saban actually ranked Oklahoma state behind Stanford, I guess he was worried it may be too close.

They should have a coaches poll of retired coaches or maybe a 50/50 split between current and former coaches. I can't imagine them having much time to review games and teams they haven't played. Which makes it easy for their vote to get swayed by media and popular opinion because we all follow the pack mentality for the most part.

Yep. Doesn't surprise me. Most Pac-12 coaches had OSU above Stanford. Missouri's coach had them 4th as well. They should've at the least had every third place vote. Stanford lost to a better team, but the rest of their schedule is shite compared to OSU's

should get rid of the coaches poll and re-add the AP poll to the BCS formula. I said it earlier today, and you're absolutely right, it's a conflict of interests for coaches to vote. It's bullshite that they can directly influence who gets into the BCS title game like they do. With it being as close as it was this year, 4 coaches voting Oklahoma down a spot(my guess Saban, Stoops, and Stanford's coach being 3 of the 4), that could have been the difference in Bama and OSU going to the game.

Of course, it would never happen because the trophy for the BCS is the "Coach's Trophy," but it's ridiculous the way they can directly affect things like they can.

The BCS doesn't need to go away as I think it gives you the best chance of having the two best teams play each other and provides the best chance for the best team to be crowned champion every year, but it needs a major overhaul and some new provisions added to prevent what occurred today and did in 2001.

Five coaches voted OSU at #4, and one coach voted OSU at #5. Of those six: (1) Stanford's coach (who understandably placed stanford ahead at 3); (2) a Bama alumni/birmingham native (david cutcliff); (3) went to Kent St. while coach saban was an assistant coach there in 72' and 73' (Pinkel); (4)&(5) no obvious correlation; and, #(6).... shameless.

Would really like to know what, if any, effect these six lower-than-#3 votes had on the total points of OSU/bama

The Air Force coach had OSU ranked 5th, behind Arkansas!

Oklahoma St only needed something like 52ish points to pass Alabama in the harris poll after the coaches vote. if the coaches poll had oklahoma state at least #3 in all the ballots, it would have been VERY close

True. The coaches poll is too subjective and people make mistakes.

It did, but they also had some 2nd places votes that helped them out. Stoops, Tubbs, and others had them in 2nd place.
