Nothing of the sort cost us Davis

I did a quick search for a link to an article my dad sent me last year on Mike Davis that I could not find. My dad is a Texas grad though and he sent me an article last fall either from scouts or rivals and Mike Davis stated he had concerns with how little playing time R. Sheppard got along with R. Randle. I know there was a lot of negative recruiting going on with that kid just from reading what he said about our coaching staff. But bottom line he always wanted to play for Texas and they made him an offer later in his senior year and he took it because he grew up a Longhorn fan. Far as Lache goes I think that guy moved down some notches by the end of the season by the recruiting experts. He played in one of those high school allstar games and the coaches there said by far and away that Ware was the far superior RB to Lache because they were both there. I'm glad that guy went to Oregon because I like who we got in 2010 and who is coming in 2011 if they indeed honor their verbals.

Larry, I think we got the speed guy you are thinking we need in Gore. I watched some YouTube clips on him and they play some really good high school ball down in Miami and that kid looked like he could scoot down that field pretty darn fast. I know that was high school but I'm hoping he is as fast as he looked in those clips. Gore may not play this year but on down the road that kid has the bloodlines to be a baller.

I vaguely remembered that quote by Davis. But the reality is that Texas wanted a Dallas kid, they started putting on the press, and they got him. If Randle had a 800 yard season, you might have seen a quote from Davis saying he wasn't sure about immediate playing time at LSU. But the reality is that it is easier to find a comfort level with the home state school. Especially when they are in the middle of a more successful season.

You are correct. Those Skyline kids from the Dallas area over the years had been going to other schools. I think there was some kind of beef with Skyline and UT. Bottom line though Texas did not make an offer when he was a junior or before his senior season and the kid showed out his senior year and once they realized just how good he was they made an offer and he accepted. But what I said was accurate, he said some pretty negative things about how Shep and Randle were used. I took it as a grain of salt, hell, we had LaFell, Toliver, Tolliver, and all those other WR's and TE's. Sometimes you have to wait a year or two before you break into the lineup. Those boys there went to the NFL or will in this years draft.
