#1 Hess, Hilliard, Walker, Gilbert were all successful weekend starters before this year. The pitching rotation was NOT set in the preseason, but many expected that Hill and Marceaux would challenge for roles as weekend starters.

#2 If two freshman pitchers are more talented than 3 of the 4 experienced pitchers, then it stands to reason that LSU would be dominant on the mound and would further justify the #1 preseason rankings. Obviously it hasn't worked out that way so far this season.

#3 How many proven hitters are on a roster at any given time much less those returning. 3 or 4 is a very good number. Watson, Duplantis, Cabrera, Smith were not only expected to be proven hitters, they were expected to compete for ALL SEC honors. Throw in Reid and a typical freshman/JUCO surprise and that should be one of the toughest line ups in the land. Just another phase of the game that's not performing up to expectations....Hitting Coach anyone!

Bottom Line, the preseason ranking was 100% warranted. LSU just hasn't lived up to them!
