“Perk to the star”
“Weeks is a starter”
Just a reminder (for some)
Modern collegiate defensive football
Offers about 10 different situational, substantive personnel variables. Which is why versatility within your players is so coveted.
CB that can play Safety, safeties that can play Linebacker, edge rushers that can slide inside. It really is centered on pre-snap unpredictability.
LSU has personnel / positional variation in any combination of these scenarios.
1) down and distance, nickel is different on 2nd and 10 verses, 3rd and 5… Perkins may be the star on 2nd and 10 and the will backer on 3rd and 5
2) Position on the field, Red zone, Green zone, goalline between the 30s may allow Burns to play safety in the red zone let Perk and weeks stay on the field also.
3) 1st Half / Second Half there is likely a different personnel packaging that switches up potential position tells at the half. When Womack is in, we are now doing something different which could blunt some halftime adjustments.
(May even been done based on the quarter)
4) offensive personnel (maybe the most obvious) but we have a different dime package verses 11 or 12 personnel. Could be that we have particular corners verses particular receiver combinations
I say all that to say this,
To say Perk is moving positions, is to say that in a few packages Perk will slide outside to make room for weeks or penn!
I am not convinced that the assumptions that Perk is moving to star is not a Weeks is replacing Penn. i didn’t watch all of the Kelly pressor this week, but positional convos seem to be overly simplified. We want rotation and fresh bodies.
The best way to do that is have packages with different guys in different positions. Most fans get this but it does seem like they don’t act like they get it.
