Andy Staples has an exercise in college football mock draft [ LINK]. Yup.. slow summer months. We can see how LSU players are perceived vs the competition.

Of the 125 players listed LSU has 2 players

47. Rice: DT Anthony Johnson, Jr., LSU, 6-3, 294
89. Syracuse: S Craig Loston, R-Sr., LSU, 6-2, 205

TAMU: (has 4 players)
1. Georgia State: QB Johnny Manziel, R-So., Texas A&M, 6-1, 200
16. UTEP: OT Jake Matthews, Sr., Texas A&M, 6-5, 305
50. Nevada: WR Mike Evans, R-So., Texas A&M, 6-5, 225
109. Oklahoma State: OT Cedric Ogbuehi, R-Jr., Texas A&M, 6-5, 300

and Bama: (has 12 players)
6. Idaho: RB T.J. Yeldon, So., Alabama, 6-2, 218
15. UAB: QB AJ McCarron, R-Sr., Alabama, 6-4, 214
21. Florida International: WR Amari Cooper, So., Alabama, 6-1, 202
27. North Texas: OT Cyrus Kouandjio, Jr., Alabama, 6-6, 310
34. Marshall: LB C.J. Mosley, Sr., Alabama, 6-2, 232
36. Troy: LB Adrian Hubbard, R-Jr., Alabama, 6-6, 252
66. Utah: OG Anthony Steen, R-Sr., Alabama, 6-3, 309
71. Tennessee: S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Jr., Alabama, 6-1, 208
84. North Carolina: RB Derrick Henry, Fr., Alabama, 6-3, 238
96. Penn State: TE O.J. Howard, Fr., Alabama, 6-6, 237
121. Notre Dame: C Ryan Kelly, R-So., Alabama, 6-5, 290
125. Alabama: LB Jonathan Allen, Fr., Alabama, 6-3, 255

A list like this is a good indicator of LSU's ranking in pre-season polls and why TAMU abd Bama are highly ranked. Last year's success has boosted TAMU standing. A good showing this year should prop some of LSU players onto such lists over the next few years.

Other SEC players are:
10. Colorado: RB Todd Gurley, So., Georgia, 6-1, 232
24. Texas State: RB Keith Marshall, So., Georgia, 5-11, 219
26. Wyoming: QB Aaron Murray, R-Sr., Georgia, 6-1, 208
38. Temple: OT John Theus, So., Georgia, 6-6, 298
2. UMass: DE Jadeveon Clowney, Jr., South Carolina, 6-6, 274
119. Florida: DT Kelcy Quarles, Jr., South Carolina, 6-4, 298

51. California: CB/WR Loucheiz Purifoy, Jr., Florida, 6-1, 189
68. Pittsburgh: DE Dante Fowler Jr., So., Florida, 6-3, 277
94. TCU: DT Dominique Easley, Sr., Florida, 6-2, 283
113. Ohio State: QB Jeff Driskel, Jr., Florida, 6-4, 236
115. Florida State: CB Vernon Hargreaves III, Fr., Florida, 5-11, 185
120. South Carolina: CB Marcus Roberson, Jr., Florida, 6-0, 178
93. USC: WR Jordan Matthews, Sr., Vanderbilt, 6-3, 205
46. East Carolina: LB A.J. Johnson, Jr., Tennessee, 6-2, 243

18. Colorado State: DE Robert Nkemdiche, Fr., Ole Miss, 6-5, 265
97. San Jose State: WR Donte Moncrief, Jr., Ole Miss, 6-3, 216
102. Ole Miss: OT Laremy Tunsil, Fr., Ole Miss, 6-6, 295
85. Mississippi State: OG Gabe Jackson, Sr., Mississippi State, 6-4, 335
104. Nebraska: LB Benardrick McKinney, R-So., Mississippi State, 6-5, 235

Arkansas, Kentucky, and Missouri drew blank.
