As a new member of this group, I’m guessing this topic has come up before in different fashions so it is posed more for curiosity than long discussion.

Does anyone know how many LSU kickers and punters have made it to the NFL or at least received invitations to training camps? Played Arena Leagues, USFL, Europe, or Canada? I know of Donnie Jones and Wade Richey in the NFL from my era (1st time in the stands as a kid in 1975, and my Dad got the season tickets that remain in the family in 76), but I’m curious if guys like David and in particular Jasper ever had the opportunity to play professional football at any level.

Usually kickers do not get drafted but are offered invitations to try-out at camp. The 2 you mentioned were really good and I must say in the Miles era we have been solid in the kicking game. ae: Bama may want to consider this facet of the game in the future. Hopefully not too soon!

Jasper was signed by Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent but was cut pretty quickly.

David was playing in the Canadian league for the past couple of years. Not sure about this year though.

Thanks RiverTiger, Gravitiger, adn tiger89. Few kickers are drafted with the most notable exception of course being Hall of Famer Saint Russell Erxleben. I may be confused in my old age, but I need to look up if that basketball pass overtime interception against the Falcons years ago was his. Didn’t know Jasper got a camp try with the Bucs. I am surprised that I never see his name mentioned as a candidate when you have emergency kicker auditions because of injuries. Of course many times that retired 40+ veteran can still do the job and has the past record which makes that call easier.
