Would that mean that the SEC gets the same payout as any other year? Or is the payout larger for the NC?

I'm not sure what the payouts are, but whatever the teams get goes into the SEC pot (minus team expenses) and divvied up.

Its is possible that if Bama loses to the SECe team, their BCS ranking would be lower than LSU

11-1 LSU
12-1 Bama..

the Fiesta could take LSU vs Boise....

the scenario is plausible..

But, good old Mrs Anderson has Bama/OU in the BCSCG and Oregon State/Stanford in the Sugar Bowl. That's the flaw in her idea.

per wikipedia, the SB website is pretty useless..

quote:

The Sugar Bowl hosts the Southeastern Conference (SEC) champion unless (under the current BCS alignment) the team is selected to play in the national championship game; in that case the Sugar Bowl can select a team at-large from any conference as the host team. The SEC champion has participated in every standalone BCS National Championship Game since 2006; the Sugar Bowl has used its replacement selection on an SEC at-large team. As such, an SEC team has played in the Sugar Bowl every year since the 2000–01 game.

This is a good explanation from last year, I would assume the "priority" order for this year would be Orange, Fiesta, Sugar.
LINK

SO according to this woman, Bama goes to BCS. Ok. Then the Fiesta Bowl, with it's tie in gone via OU gives the Sugar the middle finger and picks LSU. I Just don't see that happening.

The Sugar Bowl would not want Stanford.

I like that part too, but there is so much misunderstanding of how things actually work. We end up with as many threads explaining SEC tiebreakers, BCS selection process, etc. as we do regular threads.

Technically speaking, the Sugar Bowl doesn't have to take an SEC team if the SEC champion is selected for the BCSCG. They just get an early replacement pick. They will almost assuredly pick an SEC team if they can.

However, here's another LSU to Fiesta scenario:
Alabama loses a non-LSU regular season game, but wins out otherwise. Because of the loss, they end up as #2 in the BCS rankings and OU is #1. Since the Fiesta Bowl loses its tie-in at #1, they get to pick first. They would likely choose a team like Oklahoma State, but they COULD pick LSU. The Rose Bowl got screwed on their Big 10-Pac 10 thing in '02 (?).

BUT, even if they pick LSU, they would get the next pick after the Sugar. They are not going to take Boise St.

Official Selection Procedure

quote:

January 2012 games: Fiesta, Sugar, Orange

The pick order is therefore:
1: --- Automatic, non BCSNCG, bowl assignments
2: Replacement for the #1 BCS team (if necessary)
3: Replacement for the #2 BCS team (if necessary)
4: Fiesta
5: Sugar
6: Orange

How in the hell can LSU end up in the Fiesta bowl!?!?!

I don't see how they can.

Doesn't the Fiesta Bowl have a tie in with the Big XII?

If so, then the loser of the OU/OSU game would go there, if the Big XII champ goes to the BCSCG.

Apparently, Holly Anderson thinks that the Fiesta bowl will be LSU vs Boise State and here's an interesting bit from Mandel.

To the original point, I'd love to hear her logic. I expect that it's an epic fail. Nobody in their right mind would predict that LSU would be in the Fiesta Bowl. As I've pointed out, it's theoretically possible ... as is UGA going to the NCG.

4. After steps No. 1, 2 and 3 have been completed, any bowl with an unfilled slot shall select a team from the automatic qualifiers and/or at-large teams in the following order for the games played in 2007 through 2010:

January 2011 games: Sugar, Orange, Fiesta

January 2012 games: Fiesta, Sugar, Orange

January 2013 games: Fiesta, Sugar, Orange

January 2014 games: Orange, Sugar, Fiesta

This can't be correct, if for no other reason that 2012 and 2013 would not be exactly the same.

Assuming that 2011 is correct, Fiesta had last pick, presumably because they hosted the NCG. Shouldn't that follow suit with the Sugar? Why would Orange go from 2 to 3 and sugar from 1-2 while hosting in 2012?

Yeah - something is definitely wrong. I didn't read it closely. I've always taken that page as gospel.

The order should be (speculating):
2011-2: Orange, Fiesta, Sugar
2012-3: Fiesta, Sugar, Orange
2013-4: Sugar, Orange, Fiesta

Check last season's selection order.

Check that - the order is affected by the Rose Bowl hosting the NCG.

Well you'd assume the official site would be correct.

I agree on what you put for this year. It's odd how the Rose is not listed in those rotations. I know the P12/B10 tie ins but it's odd they are omitted explicitly.

Regardless, to the OP, it seems extremely unlikely that the LSU would got to the Fiesta, if for no other reason, politically the struggling Fiesta would be taking a shot across the bow at the Sugar. But, maybe because they are they are struggling they are willing to do something like that and infuse new blood into the game by including an LSU. She's either ignorant or crazy like a fox. I say ignorant.
