Is ESPN+ like WatchESPN where if you pay for the cable subscription, you can use the app? From what I can tell ESPN+ is separate and you either do a free trial or pay $4.99 a month.

Yeah ESPN+ is basically like an expansion of WatchESPN (for a fee).
Not available without subscription (or trial).
