It should be an offensive foul for deliberately jumping into an opposing player

I know the rules, but it's not the safest play for either player, not to mention sportsmanship be damned.

The problem is that it should be an offensive foul. It’s the way it’s officiated. Defenseive player has right to jump straight up. If offensive moves into defender it’s just like a charge and should be called as such but it isn’t

I agree.

But when Waters pulled it off perfectly, it showed me this kid knows the rules. And that is who I want coming down the court, controlling my offense.

ETA “on a player he knew had 4 fouls”

Vertically gives the player the right to jump straight up. As bad as the officiating was you lose defensive position if you move forward towards the ball handler. You can only move laterally or obliquely and maintain legal guarding position. Our guys were jumping forward and he capitalized on us giving up legal position. It's basketball 101 and a non issue
