Basketball just got Nike unis a few years ago and I'm pretty sure baseball is not NIKE.

they get most of thier investment back in advertising...every time LSU is on TV, so is Nike...btw, if you think 1 million is a big investment, look into Nike's investment into U of Oregon's athletic programs

True, but that is an entirely different situation - benefactors making donations. Phil Knight is to Oregon as T. Boone Pickens is to OK State.

500K in merchandise cost a lot less than 500k for nike
$12-$15 bucks maybe?

I think we get a small portion of lsu related sales
Which is called licensing. It is the same reason I cannot go down to the local T-Shirt store and print Peterson for Heisman because both LSU and the Heisman Foundation will send me cease and desist orders. Unless they are getting a cut of sales, they will crush you.

Wow. That's a serious investment by Nike - at just one school. I've always been curious about the economics of these types of deals. I know Nike will in turn sell a lot of LSU merchandise, but damn, how many T-Shirts do they have to sell to cover a $1,000,000 investment?
Well when you have kids in sweatshops making all your gear...
