As mentioned all pbp annoucers have their issues. It is a shame when someone who has been criticized for being such a "homer" not so many years ago, by some in the media, so Jim has a little negativity in that last game. If you ALL will go back and read Trent Johnson's post game comments about how bad they looked. READ BETWEEN THE LINES FOLKS> He said, they "were getting beat, but it wasn't for a lack of effort". I will say it again, Hawthorne this past Saturday, perfectly summed up how crappy they were playing. Even the coac, if they would have lost, would not have had nothing to say except, this team was leg weary.
Playing ball for a few years, I totally understand why FT's don't fall and certainly those jumpers from 18-21'. It is and always be about the legs. LSU is not a deep team as has been well documentd, including by Johnson before the game,. With that said, I was exactly where Hawthorne was on Saturday at 9 minutes left.
As far as Dandy Don, when has he had an original thought. He copies, plagiarizes, information from other sources everyday. Go back and see all of the negative posting he blasted from the football season. Oh yeah, don't forget about the crap he started about Richardson decommitting from Bama, to LSU. What a joke.

Anyone defending Jim Hawthorne just has not listened to enough of his broadcasts. So you say at times we are feeling down. It is his job to pick us up! I can guarantee it never crosses his mind after listening to him so many times I have quit listening. I didn't listen last night. I am glad I didn't. Someone says he has job security, and I have no doubt it is true, but it is so sad.

His job is play-by-play NOT to be a motivational speaker for your sorry arse. He's one of the best in the business. Jordy commented on this last week and said not too many people hear other teams radio guys but Jim is by far one of the best around. I know it's Jordy but he just wouldn't have said anything if he didn't really think that.

MightyYat, I have been listening or trying to listening to him for all his 29 years. Do you even come close to that in age. I said I can't listen to him. You go ahead, but don't try to tell me what my sorry arse should think.

Yet you get on a fricking soap box saying anyone who likes him must not listen to him. I think I have enough "LSU mileage" to know he's a good play-by-play guy. Yes he gets a little too excited at times (which I think adds to the broadcasts) and yes he might not give the score out as much as some would like but he always does a great job of relaying what's going on with the actual gameplay and THAT'S what he gets paid to do. He will never be perfect but neither was Harry Carry and I wouldn't have missed his broadcasts for anything.

Substitue the word negative for excited, and I still can't change my opinion. I'm not fond of him, and yes I guess I am on a soap box, because this is one thing concerning LSU athletics that I would absolutely like changed. So if your on the opposite side, sit and listen as your little heart desires, but listen closely and your opinion may change. I like Harry Carey and I liked Dizzy Dean too, they were color guys though.

Harry Caray was a play-by-play guy. Just sayin'. That statement probably ruined any cred you might have had...

Saying Hawthorne is one of the best in the business is like saying Jarrett Lee was the best freshman quarterback in nation last year. While doing football he constantly gets names wrong on the LSU side. He is mediocre at best and that is on a good day. He might have been good at one time but he is bad most days and mediocre on his best days.

I am working in Kentucky and heard the UK broadcast earlier that day. The difference is day and night....

#1- They get the calls right. They are not as detailed but when they say something, they don't have to retract it later.

#2- They are not HOMERS and don't criticize the team. Just that Arkansas made a good play ect... Not "They are just letting Ole Miss take it from them. My oh my"

#3- I am getting to the point where I can't stand hearing Hawthorne call a game. The negativity and mistakes are just too much. He is getting worse every year.

Can people stop with the "Let's see you do his job". It's an intellectually dishonest way of critiquing job performance. Can I not get pissed at the garbageman leaving trash in my lawn since I've never been a garbageman?

As I see it, Hawthorne has been horrible since I've been in an LSU fan (circa 2001). Most recently, his performance in the MSU game was horrific, most likely due to his age and eyesight. It's not too much to ask to get someone in there that can accurately call a game.
