I really need go no further than 2003 LSU to rebut this. In 2003, LSU was ranked 1st in total defense, allowing app. 252 yards per game. That same defense had 33 takeaways. 2003 LSU was ranked 6th in punt returns (14.5). In 2011, LSU was ranked second in total defense, allowing app. 261 yards per game. That edition of the defense had 30 takeways. 2011 LSU ranked 12th in punt returns (13.44). Hence, the 2003 LSU defense allowed FEWER yards, forced MORE turnovers, and had BETTER punt returns (i.e. field position), yet 2003 LSU finished 31 in total offense and 2011 LSU finished 86! You can't blame the woes of the 2011 offense on superlative defense and special teams. The 2011 offense just wasn't good.
None if this disproves that if defense and special teams were responsible for our ability to score then that logically means less yards were available to gain.
Yes the 2003 gained more yards per game, however that equaled only around 1 more first down gained per game. In fact the 2011 offense had a better 3rd down and 4th down conversion rate, better red zone efficiency, and less penalties per game.

has to be paraphrasing. there was not a single miles-ism in that OP. I fail to believe he spoke without one.
