re: Does anyone know why Bouman was pulled?

I agree with everything you say, but he wasn't getting hit hard at all. He isn't going to be getting many balls by people and that's fine. There isn't any need to strike everyone out. It makes him more economical with his pitches. I agree 100% that the plan was only to get him to go about 5-6 innings and that's why he came out. He hadn't been hit hard yet and with a 1 run lead you can't let him get hit hard before you take him out.
Let's just hope we can get another 4-5 solid innings from Cartwright tonight. If that happens I think we have a good chance.

I wouldn't call walking the first guy in the 7th and needing a horrid bunt attempt as rolling through the 7th for mccune

No he wasn't getting hit hard, I just think with his stuff, you aren't gonna fool people the 3rd time thru.
If we leave Bouman in and he gets drilled in the 7th everyone is saying that CPM should have taken him out after six.

I think we could have left him in until the next hit he gave up and then went to the pen.

Having to face the minimum on about 10 pitches isn't rolling through an inning? What would you call it then?

Yes. Twice

I guess you could, or instead of waiting for him to give up a hit, remove him before he does.
Honestly, if CPM didn't have it in his head to start the game that Bouman would go 5-6 then I think he stays in the game, but I also think it's kinda crazy to push your luck letting a guy go deeper into a game than he has all year.

Well at the end of the day, the Bouman pull looks great if Cune doesn't step in and blow. I remember in the game thread we were pretty much in agreement that turning it over to the bullpen at that point left us all very confident.

No kidding. If we had a 3 run lead, I think PM might have run him out in the 7th. In a 1-0 game though I think you gotta stick with your game plan, which was obviously for the kid to go 5-6 solid innings and then turn it over to the pen.
But the coach can NEVER do right on the Rant.

it's also crazy to leave mccune in for as long as he did...2 wrongs didn't make a right last night

I can agree with that, the bad part is after having a quick hook for bouman he gave mccune a extremely long one

Obviously I think Cune should have been replaced after the 7th.

100% agree. I thought he did the right thing with Bouman but made a terrible mistake with Cune.

he walked the first guy and then got a extremely lucky bounce with a bad bunt for a double play. I don't call that rolling, sure the end result was good but it was a shaky road getting there. Either way leaving him in for the 8th after he let the first 2 guys on was a huge mistake.

I think everyone knows that. It's been stated several times that the biggest mistake was leaving McCune in for the 8th. Not sure I understand that 2 wrongs didn't make a right, especially since taking Bouman out wasn't even necessarily the wrong decision.

Taking Bouman out was only bad because it gave PM the opportunity to put in McCune.

it sounded so right in my head

Ok well you're arguing semantics here. I think any time you can get through an inning by throwing 10 pitches and facing the minimum number of hitters you pretty much rolled through the inning. Call it whatever you want then. Say he had a "successful" inning.
Whatever you feel like calling it:

This 100% no doubt. He (PM) got comfortable after we scored a few runs in the 7th.

This is the best explination I can come up with
Bouman hasn't gone 7 all year. Cune has been good recently so CPM trusted that he would get him an inning or two. Once he got in the bad situation in the 8th he had person and fury available. He didn't want person to face a righty and he wanted to save Broussard till the 9th.
That is why we saw what we saw it backfired but that is baseball.

No wonder CPM was looking all dumb founded in the dugout most of the night after he pulled Bouman. He has only himself to blame.
