Georgia might have had a chance to win that tournament, they were on a roll at the end of the year.

Known as the “Alabama rule”. Although these changes make perfect sense it was triggered by Alabama being excluded from playoffs last year to a couple of less deserving teams “taking their place” simply based on having a better record or conf champ.
