Arguments against firing Crowton (and why they are stupid)

1) "Hiring a new OC would waste a year for the new OC to implement his system"

"Wasting a year" would mean less offensive production. But our offense could not get any worse than it is now, and it does not really take a whole year to adjust to a new OC. Look at Auburn: In Gus Malzhan's first year (09 season), Auburn increased its offensive production massively.

2) "Its not Crowton's fault, its the QB play"

While our QBs have struggled this year, particularly Jefferson, it is obvious that some of the struggles are due to shitty play calling. JJ gets blamed for a lot of 3 and outs, but its hard to get the first down when you call 5-yard routes on 3rd & 7. Crowton also doesn't give his QBs any chance to prove they can throw downfield effectively. Against the worst pass defense in the SEC last week we hardly ever tried to throw it deep. In addition, Crowton doesn't call plays that go along with JJ's ability. We could have Ryan Mallett under center and Crowton would still be calling options to the short side of the field.

Don't waste your breath (well, fingers)

Anybody who wants to retain Crowton isn't worth dignifying. The dude is a total fricking disgrace.

And who is supposed to coach the QBs?

Possible Options for 2011

1. Keep Crowton, start Mettenberger
2. Fire Crowton, start Lee/Jefferson
3. Fire Crowton, start Mettenberger

Chances are good that one of these solutions will put us exactly where we are now, one of them will somehow make us look worse, and one will improve us dramatically.

Any guesses on which is which?

I think 2, but I'm assuming you meant 3.

I have yet to formulate an opinion. I haven't seen Mettenberger play.

Same here. And I'm always reluctant to latch on to the next quarterback Savior. Newton is the first one of those to work out in a few years. Brantley was supposed to light it up for Florida, but he's little better than JJ was last year. Of course, JJ wasn't bad for a first year starter.

Maybe a new coordinator w/ somewhat of a clue comes in here and JJ/JL and Mett benefit from it.

I'm all for Mett being the guy in 2012 and 13.

If he takes the job in 11......then that's ok too.

Anyone who thinks starting a QB they have never seen, paired with an OC with a new system they don't even know of....and predicting vast improvement is kinda crazy.

So I can only think it is fire crowton start jl/jj.

This is by far the most common thing you hear and there is really nothing backing it up.

You also hear a lot of "It'll damage the recruiting class" Maybe it does and maybe it won't but does it really matter? The guy can't do anything with the elite talent that we have.

If Crowton is fired, then any QB on scholarship would be on equal footing. If Mett could come in here and prove to be the best option, then he needs to be the starter. Same goes for JJ or JL.
