I’ll stick with the boxing theme when breaking down Adam’s recruitment and parallel the classic match between the Russian “Drago” and Rocky. The Aggies of course playing the role of Rocky and Texas as Drago. Early on in the movie, much like Adam’s recruitment, Drago was punishing the Italian Stallion, but little did we know, that was a part of Rocky’s plan.

Now, A&M’s master plan wasn’t to play from behind, but that was the hand they were dealt due to Adams’ fondness of the Longhorns at an early age (much like how Rocky had to deal with the natural disparity in size between himself and Drago). A&M’s plan was to work the body, wear their opponent down and stay patient because they knew eventually they would get a chance for a knockout blow that could send these other teams down for the count.

The turning point in that epic match was the moment Rocky drew blood from Drago. Once Rocky saw that he could bleed, he knew the Russian was beatable. A&M had always believed they could land Adams but getting the 4-star DB to campus was the signal they needed to help realize he was truly an attainable prospect.

Finally, at the end of the match, you hear the Russian crowd start to fall in love with Rocky. They start chanting his name and he’s able to finish off Drago. Like that crowd, Adams went to Twitter to show his affection towards A&M on his way home, tweeting to his followers on Saturday after his first visit to Aggieland, “I fell in love.”
