the reason people suggest safeties move to lb is because they have decent size for an lb, but don't have the speed to play safety. it's as simple as that. it is way too early to make that call with reid.

LSU fans and wanting to move safeties to LB?? Now people are talking about moving Reid to LB already.
Jesus christ. Just because he weighs 203 lbs in high school doesn't mean he's going to play at 245 lbs by his soph year in college.
It's not just LSU fans and how many 245 pound LBs do you think we have. Did you sleep through the 2000s?
We have more talent at safety then we prolly need and Chavis is no stranger to dropping safeties to LB, e.g. Coleman.

Ummmm.....because it's entirely possible. People are intrigued by the fact that there will be small speedy LBs out there to help stop the spread and cover out of the backfield.
We've gone over this.

i suppose the question should be,
"Why are you asking a question that you already know the answer to?"

Most LSU fans probably never even realized this was a possibility until Chavis came along.

A big key to all of this will be how effective our front line is in holding off the rush.....
cannot replace LB's with safties unless the gaps are closed and teams are forced to go outside. If such happens, I agree - a quick, sure-tackling safety is even better than a hefty linebacker.
The next question is "injuries"....playing inside could be rough on a slightly smaller player over the course of the year.....maybe effective early, but important to be able to finish the season healthy.

Look at what Barton Simmons just said about Reid at the Top Gun Camp. (By the way, Reid was the first player he mentioned in his update, so I look for his stock to keep going up.)
"Safeties Eric Reid and Keenan Allen are very good.
Reid is huge. Looks like he could end up at linebacker if he wanted to but that's not to say that he can't cover. I was really impressed with the way he's been able to turn his hips in coverage. He has a good feel for routes and sees the field well."

More from Barton Simmons in his "Hot 11" from today. Take that biatches.
"Don't be surprised if Reid ultimately ends up at linebacker in college because he has that kind of size. However, it isn't a necessity to move him because he has terrific range and the hips to play defensive back. He also understands the position and sees the field well. He demonstrated that well on Friday with one interception that he returned for a touchdown. The pick came because of his instincts in zone coverage and his natural ball skills that he displayed all week. "
