I am pretty sure SM was a national top 3 player at his position if not the #1 and a 5 star. I haven't heard that much praise for Williams yet and doubt he will be that highly regarded. This isn't necessarily a knock against him, as we are talking about comparing him to one of the best DE we have had here.

IMO, star ratings are just numbers on a piece of paper! They mean nothing! I've personally seen so called 4 and 5 star recruits at camps get utterly destroyed by a player no one has heard of! That's why when they get these "stars", some of them won't compete at the camps now, for fear of this happening! I've witnessed many of them walking around in street clothes without competing. So, I don't put any stock in how many "stars" a particular kid has. It all comes down to the skill level of the individual player...and Tim is one of the best out there today!

Actually on rivals, Tim Williams is ranked higher than Sam Montgomery, but he is ranked lower than Montgomery on scout.

Hey Wildman, congrats on Garretts offers, happy for him. My boy is up to 218 and ran a 4.71 and cleaned 275 yesturday so tell Garrett be ready to strap it up when practice starts. Really getting pumped for our season to get started.

To me Tim is kind of a blend of Montgomery and Mingo. Faster off ball than Montgomery but not as physical, stronger than Mingo, but not as fast.

eta Nice shot of you on the couch on Garretts facebook.

Just based on their prospect status, I give the edge to Williams. Montgomery was just a raw, pure athlete. His skill level was virtually untapped. Williams has actually started to tap into his skillset. Large set of shoes to fill, though, as a more polished college player. Not every kid progresses as well as Sam has. Williams has the potential to be the same level of producer.

Thanks Lctiger! Garrett told me the ran a 5.03 and cleaned 300. I can't wait for the season either! As for the picture, he and his mom are shutterbugs! Always disturbing my beauty rest!

He wasn't but he was significantly underrated. Having lived in SC at the time, I remember telling everyone on Tigerbait (when I was still on that POS website) that he would be the steal of his class.

Having said that I thought Dominique Allen was going to revolutionize the FB position so what do I know .

I wasn't knocking Nick.

I know I was just saying he has gotten faster though I'm sure you already knew this. Garrett has gotten a lot faster as well, he was pretty fired up yesterday after that 40

Wildman, did Tim compete at any of the LSU football camps? I never heard anything, but then again, I haven't been able to focus enough on camp news...

Also Tim told me he will decide on a commitment either before the season or after at the Under Armour All American game. He wants to fully focus on his senior season and if he hasn't decided before the season kicks off he will wait to make sure he is making the right choice. I would say that right now there is no definite leader but he really likes LSU Miami Florida St(just visited for their camp and loved it) as well as Bama. He may not be Sam Montgomery but he will make one of those coaches very very happy.

Montgomery or Mingo?

I think Montgomery was way ahead of where Williams is.

Can anybody confirm Sonic Sam's ratings on the the sites such as 247, rivals, and scout coming out of high school. I remember him being a big time recruit but I dint remember if he was a consensus top 10 or even a consensus top 50. I think Tim can have the same type of impact even though that's asking alot. I'm high on this kid and probably been my realistic #1 recruit since the beginning. I really liked Tunsil and Vanderdoes on their lines respectively but as far as realistically I think Tim has been my #1 recruit on the lines
