I don't see why August would be such a bad time. Let them do it and if they want to commit and not have to worry about it as a senior then go for it. If a coach takes another job or is fired you could maybe allow the player a window to choose to reopen their commitment or stay with school.

I think the early period should be for players that are truly signing with the school rather than the coach. if they are concerned about the coach, then wait until the late signing period.
