They’re too busy blowing each other over how awesome the bootleggers are

247 didn’t actually rate him, they had his profile with only a Rivals Rating

Rivals is the only one I check. To me it's a much easier site to navigate and most importantly shows where the offers came without having to scroll.
Seems to me 247 seems to overrate players, see chris currys rankings and it's a major difference between sites. 247 has him as a top 10-15 back for whole class and rivals has him at 48 where he belongs. There's a lot of 4 stars on 247 that should be 3 stars.

I don't have a sub on any sites anymore but I still check their forums, rivals message board seems like a shitshow.

Biggest discrepancy in the rankings in my opinion is the dedicated camps each site is affiliated with. It creates a bias to an already very subjective process.

I think kids should be ranked by the quality of offers they get. Obviously the coaching circles and recruiting coordinators have the best eye and the most resources to evaluate recruits.

I agree with the spirit of your post, but coaches are almost as difficult to read as the recruits. Some top recruits won’t even get offers or report offers from schools that aren’t the top tier or whom they’re not really considering. It’d be pretty tough to get a really good read on how good a player is by their offers. Again, though, I think the recruiting services should take offers into account, but they probably already do...it just might not affect predictions in the way you and I would hope.
