Grew up and played back yard ball with Tyrus Thomas....He's a couple years older.
My best friends mom lived across the street from Jarell Martin...Glen Oaks area. We would bring lil dude with us to go ball at the Brecs...wasn't anything special...decent for his age. One summer dude just shot up like a bean stock.

Not top 500, recruited by several D1aa schools and took visit to places like Atm, tcu. Had opportunity to visit a few other D1 programs but quit wasting my time as I was a 5'11 LB.(none wanted to offer) Ended up blowing knee out first of senior year. Lost all D1 looks had to sign D2

Had several similar experiences. If I was going to play College ball, I wanted it to be more exciting than HS!

Same here. I had just started the process really (was a late bloomer I guess. Lol) and was getting looks from UF, LSU, VT, Syracuse, UGA, couple other east coast schools. Went on a few visits, and then blew my knee out 2nd game of senior year, back when torn ACLs were really bad. Lol. No one really had much interest after that. Walked on at LSU. Played a year and a spring, and realized college football wasn't near as much fun as high school football. Left and never looked back.

I probably could have walked on at State if I didn't quit my senior year. I would have never played but it would have been a good experience

Typically, they offer "general academic scholarships" to athletes they are recruiting that meet the admission standards. That's what I was offered by Rhodes, I'm unsure on the wording used by other schools. It was for 25% of tuition.

That's what I meant. I was in your same situation but I never saw that as being a recruited athlete. I chose the party at LSU route just as it seems others did in this thread
Plus, while I was literally paid to go to LSU each semester, I would have been out of pocket more than 20k/yr to go any of those schools even with the academic package. Business decision.

I was, spoke to Les a few times on the phone. First time he saw my tape was actually in a junior college coaches office while he was visiting one of their players. All state in MS, Eric Berry's arch camp rival lol. Good times.

Yea only school I talked to was hampden Sydney. And they would help me with an academic scholarship. Still would have been a lot of money and so I went to lsu and never played again
