Southern Mississippi has never really been Ole Miss County and I grew up there and my dad was an Ole Miss recruiter aka bagman.
Not to make this too involved but the prick Johnny Vaught didn’t recruit Catholics, Blacks, or people from the Coast, so almost all Ole Miss connections are from just former students or family connections from other parts of the state. Bear Bryant didn’t have that issue nor did LSU.
Lucedale is 5 miserable hours from Ole Miss and 2 1/2 from Baton Rouge. Made the drive 100s of time. South Mississippi has much more in common with South Louisiana than it does North Mississippi
