Safe to run generator in rain?

I know people do it, but not sure if it could mess up the generator.

Throw together SOME kind of "cover". Half a sheet of plywood on some 2 X 4's.

EDIT: It's not hot while it's raining. I'd wait. It'll stop raining soon enough.

Nope to boat garage. My Carport and shed usually gets water a couple of inches deep so I can't keep it there...I'll probably work on a shield once the winds calm down
