Any tips?
Using a hammer and chisel.
Thought about using a hammer drill and power chisel
Trying to not damage the brick underneath
Any other options to remove the residual mortar?
Slate sucks

I’d try drilling/chiseling through the middle of the slate and then trying to pop it off with a pry bar. Also could try scoring some break lines with a grinder to get the slate out easier
Not sure how well that would work just some ideas
